eLife Latest: Welcoming our newest editors

Bringing a broad range of expertise, 98 researchers join eLife’s editorial board and 10 assume senior roles on the leadership team.

Since May 2020, 98 scientists joined our Board of Reviewing Editors (BRE), while 10 other investigators assumed senior roles on the eLife leadership team. The new editors work across all major areas of research considered for publication at eLife. Of those joining our BRE, we’re pleased to welcome six scientists who have previously been part of our early-career reviewer pool.

We would also like to thank our editors for their commitment to eLife during such an unusual and difficult year. Their invaluable support has enabled us to continue publishing research of the highest quality and delivering meaningful feedback to authors in a time that has brought uncertainty to many.

Researchers who have recently joined as Senior Editors include:

  • Lu Chen, Stanford University – Neuroscience
  • Miles P. Davenport, University of New South Wales – Epidemiology and Global Health, Immunology and Inflammation, Medicine, Microbiology and Infectious Disease
  • Erica A. Golemis, Fox Chase Cancer Center – Cancer Biology, Cell Biology
  • David E. James, The University of Sydney – Biochemistry and Chemical Biology, Cell Biology
  • Matt Kaeberlein, University of Washington – Cell Biology, Chromosomes and Gene Expression, Genetics and Genomics, Immunology and Inflammation, Neuroscience, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine
  • Bavesh D. Kana, University of the Witwatersrand – Microbiology and Infectious Disease

  • Sara L. Sawyer, University of Colorado Boulder – Evolutionary Biology, Immunology and Inflammation, Microbiology and Infectious Disease
  • Meredith C. Schuman, University of Zurich – Ecology, Plant Biology
  • Michael Taffe, University of California, San Diego – Neuroscience

Our Senior Editors are responsible for maintaining the high quality and broad scope of the work published in the journal. They decide, in consultation with members of the BRE, whether a paper should be sent for peer review. All manuscripts selected for review are then assigned to an appropriate BRE who recruits reviewers and oversees the online consultation among referees.

Our most recent BREs include:
