eLife is committed to publishing high-quality, interdisciplinary approaches to metabolism, from basic and translational research to clinical investigations.
We are interested in classical themes of metabolism including, but not limited to:
- insulin action,
- insulin secretion,
- islet biology,
- lipid biology,
- and adipocyte biology,
as well as cross-disciplinary and new approaches including, but not limited to, the genetics of metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
Some recent metabolism papers that demonstrate the breadth of the topic published at eLife include:
- Single cell analysis reveals immune cell–adipocyte crosstalk regulating the transcription of thermogenic adipocytes,
- Placental uptake and metabolism of 25(OH)vitamin D determine its activity within the fetoplacental unit,
- and Disease consequences of higher adiposity uncoupled from its adverse metabolic effects using Mendelian randomisation.
Why is publishing with eLife different?
- Peer review at eLife is collaborative, which limits the requests for extra work.
- Extra experiments, analyses, or data collection are only requested if they are essential and can be reasonably completed within about two months.
- All editorial decisions are made by working scientists. Our current editors equipped to evaluate submitted work in metabolism and metabolic disease include:
